EIGHT paedophile monsters were facing years behind bars last night after being convicted of sickening child porn and abuse crimes.

Victims of the fiends — who were snared by their vile net chats — included a three-month-old tot and a toddler, who had to undergo sex disease tests.

Cops now hope their probe into the depraved network could help smash a massive international paedo ring.

One senior detective said: “Until you start to dig in this cesspit, you can have no idea of the depths of depravity out there. But just as shocking is how widespread it is.”

Two of the eight men — convicted sex offender Neil Strachan and gay rights campaigner James Rennie — were found guilty of abusing kids.

HIV positive Strachan, 41, and Rennie, 38, both from Edinburgh, were also convicted of conspiring to abuse youngsters, along with three other members of the gang.

All of the evil network accused in the 10-week trial were convicted of a string of child porn offences.

Last night the shattered families of the abused children spoke of their revulsion at the gang.

The mum of the 18-month-old toddler said in a statement: “The anguish I feel towards Mr Strachan is indescribable.”

And the family of the baby targeted by Rennie added: “We have had to learn to live, and cope with, the effect these horrific events have had.”

Police have already identified men throughout Britain with links to the gang.

The senior cop added: “This one case involving just eight men in the dock has caused investigators to access links to literally hundreds of other apparently like-minded individuals.

“The tentacles are spread out all over the UK and even to a potentially massive network in Europe.

“This case is likely to be a landmark in more ways than one.”

All the offences were committed in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and East Lothian during various periods from February 2004 to May 2008.

A jury took ten hours to reach decisions on a total of 54 charges.

Judge Lord Bannatyne called for background reports at the High Court in Edinburgh before sentencing at a later date.

Det Supt Allan Jones, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: “As the investigation unfolded it revealed a web of people who had a common interest in child sexual abuse.”

I must just say that these pedo rings are not limited to Scotland or scottish folk. Some years back a newspaper printed a map of the most pedo populated area's of England and one of the worst was The South of England. I actually lived in the area of West Sussex when 'Sarah Payne' was murdered by 'Roy Whiting' in East preston, West Sussex. We were living about half a mile from the lane where she was snatched before we moved to Bristol. The field where her little body was found was to the side of a road that my brother used to get to work. Unknown to him, he had driven past her body hidden by a hedge for three days until police found her. It affected all of us.

I think even life imprisonment is too good for these people if you can call them that..... monsters more like.

Can we not do a deal with Iran? I've seen video's of what they do to child rapists in Iran and i'm sure we can come to some arrangement to have them sent out there and be dealt with rather than us the tax payer keeping the scum in a luxery prison for the rest of their lives??????

This is why, against my wishes to allow my daughter her freedom, I cannot allow her to wander further than I can reach her before someone else can. She likes to wander as I used to as a kid.

Its monsters like this that make me support the death penalty 100% they offer absolutely nothing to the human race. Pedo's along with capital murderers need to pay for their crimes the RIGHT way..with their lives.
