Mom gave toddler Tylenol for his gunshot wound!

Post by Cass »

A mother whose 2-year-old was accidentally shot with a handgun gave the boy Tylenol and put him down for a nap, waiting more than four hours to go to a hospital, police said. Sylvia Ann Alcozer 21, turned herself in Thursday on charges of felony child endangerment. She was scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Nathan Vela, 2, was shot Nov. 11 by his 17-year-old uncle. He was hospitalized after the bullet hit his arm and went into his chest then stopped near his spinal cord. He had broken ribs and a punctured lung, according to the complaint. He's now in the custody of relatives.

The boy's uncle, Marcus Cruz Alcozer, remained in the Potter County Detention Center on Friday on bail of $7,500. He has been charged with reckless injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.

According to a criminal complaint, Alcozer told police the gun discharged accidentally. He dropped it, picked it up and pulled the trigger without checking to see whether it was loaded.

The mother "told police that she only thought the bullet had grazed her son's arm and it only bled slightly," the complaint states. "Officers retrieved a sock and a cloth which had been used in an attempt to stop the bleeding."
