My daughter in America has told me several times in conversation the food in the US lasts longer due to preservatives, bread and milk she has pointedly told me last for weeks and weeks.

So this article should be very worrying for you American members.

Apparently you are eating stuff that even the Chinese refuse to......

Wow... :-2

I'm reading a lot of labels at the moment, because lactose intolerance is suspected so no products with lactose for me.. Anyway it surprised me how much crap is in our food!

Although I bet it wouldn't mention on the box: Yummy chicken wings with extra arsenic ;) !

That is a fairly old article, actually.

I've seen none of that stuff in foods in our pantry for quite some time. The battle over food coloring, of course still goes on.

Yeah, I get a kick out of my niece who is always talking about her good eating habits and natural diet, while she smokes three packs a day.

I remember when they brought in 'super soft' breads. Very popular a the time but when it was exposed how unhealthy they were people have begun going back to the old kitchen breads.

You know how to make bread last longer ? freeze it.

If my bread doesn't have mold on it within 3-4 days, then I do not trust it!

I do buy bread in bulk but I freeze it :)

My dad cut an apple the other week, and left it on the side to go brown, just to see what would happen.. days went past... it didn't even change colour, not a bit! That's not normal now is it..

I understand corpses take longer to decay these days too.

Chloe I have an orchard and apples and pears are picked and stored . In a basket on a bench, they will keep for anywhere between 6 to 9 weeks. From the supermarket it's the opposite. fruit seems to rot while it's still in the store.

This is because most fruit and fresh veges picked are stored in refrigerated temps or gassed for up to six months by the companies. As soon as they are taken out of these conditions the fruit and vege rots at a much quicker pace which leaves everyone needing more produce all the time. This makes the companies rich. It's also why we have so much waste.

probably just means cancer. Hormones in Chicken causes not only girls to develop earlier but also causes uteral cysts and cancer. Laws were changed with food products here because of it.
