Yeah that really sucks. I reckon though, that you have the kind of character to help you beat this kind of thing. You will always find a friendly ear or two here if you feel the need. I wish you all the very best.

Sending get well wishes from Virginia, Bruv and hoping that you have a speedy recovery and an easy time of it. It sounds like you have a strong constitution in general which is a plus!

Is the presence of bowel cancer & the lymphoma a coincidence or is common to have both conditions at the same time?

That is another question to add to my list for my pre-admission clinic on Tuesday.

I am not a greedy person, suppose it's on offer at the moment two for the price of one.

Good question Tabby

I don't believe one is related to the other

certainly if you have a poison/disruption is your system it can/will cause other issues.

I am not opposed to research, but when you are too close to the subject, and you have an active imagination like me, it is best you curb going down too many blind alleys, looking for generic symptoms, when every case is unique.......I know I am unique.

Never met an unbecoming barmaid or nurse.

Barmaids improve as the night progresses, suspect the opposite with nurses depending on your length of stay.

Got a phone call this morning, they have brought the op forward from 3rd May to 30 April.

Some thing tells me it is essential to get it done quickly.........or they had a cancellation.

Im opting for the cancellation

I haven't panicked or worried since I heard.......worryingly.

I am concerned about a stay in Hospital though.

Integument for the less learned amongst us.

Number two daughter came bearing everything I might be wanting for my stay, Jamas, slippers, boxer shorts, fleecy dressing gown, tooth paste, shampoo, deodorant, shaving foam, super dooper new razor.........I asked if she was assisting the surgeon.

Make sure you take plenty to read also. If you're In for a few days, much of that will be sitting around. Also plenty of fruit juice or something like that. Wax earplugs available In Boots are a godsend If you are In a ward... 20 people snoring Is not funny.

You'll be woken at around 6 am with your first cuppa of the day. Breakfast at 8 am. lunch around 12.30 pm, afternoon tea and bikkies around 3 pm and supper around 5 pm. You'll be offered a milky drink at around 7 pm. Lights out at 9 pm.

I wish you the very best.

I recommend "Shogun" by James Clavelle (sp?) for your hospital stay if you haven't already read it. Very engrossing, you'll get lost in it.

This sort of started as a recommendation for the NHS, had no idea it would end up here, not saying it's ended as yet though of course.

I will be asking if I can have a laptop with me so I can visit here, to give all the details immediately in technicolour.

Right......you asked for it.

About todays pre-admission Clinic.

The reality has just kicked in........this is NOT a dream or a bad joke.

The good news first, I can have a laptop in there......thats the end of the good news.

After a general chat about allergies, medications, family medical problems, past illnesses, weight taking, height etc etc

We got down to the nitty gritty.

They want me to take some 'buildy uppy' juices for a couple of days previous to admission. A change of diet with minimal roughage for the three days before admission.

The day before there is the disgusting concoction I had for the colonoscopy, but split over two days. Starting the night before, the other packet early morning before admission.......luvely stuff.

That lady handed me over to the Physio Therapist who told me how to cough up my phlegm, the need to breath deeply regularly, and to wriggle my toes, and to get up off my butt as early as practicable........that is my shortened version, but the basics are correct.

Then I was passed to the Stoma specialist nurse...deep joy.

It might be keyhole it might not, I might need a stoma bag, I might not.

I was shown how it all works, now that was interesting, amazing what they do these days......and to me too.....shudder.

Then I had an ECG, if thats what they call it.....think I am right. Then another blood test, another one due the morning of admission.

I carried home a carrier bag of all the stuff, a stoma practice kit, various pamphlets, booklets, and a container for the 'sharps' I will have to self inject to stop blood clotting.

And it all kicks off next Tuesday at 11.00 am

All part of lifes rich tapestry...................sigh..

A phonecall at 5.30 am this morning told me my brother ,junior by four years, had died following a heart attack.

This evening his daughter tearfully told me how sorry she was that his demise might hinder my situation.

Now that is a funny emotion to handle.
