Britain releases dossier on prewar Iraqi weapons intelligence

Post by flopstock »

Apparently Britain based it's decision on the writings of a press official.

....On Monday, opposition Liberal Democrat lawmaker Edward Davey said he believed the Williams document is proof of the role government press officers had in drafting Iraq intelligence reports.

"A press official should never have been drafting a document that ended up being used as the justification for going to war," Davey said. "There has to be a clear distinction between those that offer impartial intelligence advice and the government's spin machine."

Hmmm...

'Miliband criticized the decision to order the release of the Williams document, saying officials should be free to draft policy papers without fears they could be made public'.

Wow!! Did he really say that? Why shouldn't they be held accountable?

How would you like the things you "draft" to be available for the public while you are in the process of preparing them? It's almost like saying a public official's thought processes aren't their own.

Politicians like thirty and forty year moratoriums on documents-it means they don;t have to worry about being found out .

This dossier was used to make the case for going to war in iraq. By changing the emphasis and meaning of the intelligence reports and being presented to parliament as being factual the question is- was it a cynical manipulation by the Tony Blair and his government get the vote to go the way they wanted in parliament? In other word did spin doctors use their skills to con us all.

If the answer is yes then is is clear Tony blair lied to parliament. The allegation is very serious and a public officials thought processes are not his own they are accountable for what they do.

Tony Blair does not have presidential powers he answers-or is supposed to-directly to parliament and governs only with the consent of parliament.
