Trying out a new News Feeds forum

Post by Tombstone »

QUINNSCOMMENTARY brought up the subject again of FG having a more "newsy" area within the forums. I've always liked the idea. So, with his push, here are the first few forums.

And as an addendum: The discussions in this area would remain more serious and on-topic.

I think it would take a miracle for this to happen... :p

I saw that on another forum. Yesterday's conversations got lost because of the flood of new threads. Any way to reduce the sheer volume of newsfeeds?

Good idea. Let's hope it works. *keeps fingers crossed* :p

Hopefully, this will also help prevent folks from improperly posting news articles from here on out.

You're right. That's something I am working on. There are so many filters that need to be put in place. I've got it pretty well filtered off the top page...but there's so much more to do.

Hmm, looks like we have the Posting Police on us, no?

I believe it's called conversation, G-man.

We have this implemented in another forum I visit and few articles get much response, there are so many of them. I haven't been too crazy about it so far. I know when I post news stuff myself a lot of times I get static from other members or the topic sinks to the bottom. On the plus side, those of us (like me) who like to to know what's happening and to talk about current issues, might like it if we could get others to contribute.

Not at all. It's a little known law called copyright violation, in fact. Tombstone understood.

Yes, we'll see how it goes. You know, I'm not all that concerned about it sparking conversations...I'm viewing it (personally) as a nice neat place to aggregate news so I can scan items quickly.

But who knows! More tweaking is needed...

It seems to be functioning alright... not too many flooding the forum at once (certainly not as much as the word game threads do :wah:) and enough activity to keep it all broken up.

I like this so far...:-6
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6
