Ah Yes, the voice of reason

The London Times has been having an interesting debate over the proposed change to maternity laws in Britain (which basically say have as many kids as you want, take a year off and still expect to get paid while you're busy breeding more little mouths for the rest of us to feed) Needless to say, the general consensus is that people who have kids should be accommodated in every way possible and celebrated for being able to enjoy the miracle of childbirth.

The UK and europe as a whole have an ageing population and a declining birth rate. Given the way our social services work with those who pay taxes provode all the state benefits the shift in population is a serious matter and is going to cause lots of problems, curently 31/2 workers for each pensioner, by 2020 it will; be 50/50.

the Swedes starting doing this kind of thing many years ago when they saw the way the stats were going and set out to encorage higher birth rates. This may be enlightened self interest.
