Happy New Year!

Post by tabby »

Wishing everyone at Forum Garden a happy, healthy & prosperous 2020!

It sounds odd to say 2020 and not have it be in relation to eyesight.

I just had the news on and it was full of the usual warnings about drunk driving. We don't go anywhere to celebrate so I won't have to worry about that this evening, at least!

Happy New Year!

Post by spot »

We could throw in some of the usual seasonal phrases. Eat, drink and be merry, for example. Happy New Year.

Bah. Which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit.

I'm not convinced there is any benefit to merriment at all, I rarely find it to be much fun. Happiness is overrated. All we have to look forward to next year is yet more politics.

However, for what it's worth, a happy new year to us all. Bledhen Nowydh Da!

New Year is definitely overrated, much like Independence Day. I haven't celebrated either in many years. For those who see this as more than a turning of the calendar - Happy New Year!

I hope the evening is relatively uneventful for all of you, and all your loved ones all get home safely.

Anyone here follow the discussion on whether 2020 is the beginning of the new decade, rather that 2021?

This seems to be the running argument we will deal with for the entire century. It all started with 2000.

While most people decided that 2000 began the New Millennium, There are many who claim that cannot be so, because we didn't start with year '0' way back when. So the end of the 20th Century (and the new Millennium) must at the turn of 2001.

While I am good with either way, some folks feel quite strongly about it. (Though I guess the notion that this is the "Twenty-First" Century might be a bit of a clue. Yeah?)

At a coffee meet this morning, an engineer from NCAR brought this up again. the discussion almost came to fisticuffs.

I Love Engineers! I have not had so much fun since December 31 2009.

So, HAPPY NEW DECADE!

Happy New Year to all, (I dislike New Year's Eve I would say it's my least favourite night of the year, as I live in the drink/drug drive capital of the UK I won't be venturing out anyway!)

Hope 2020 brings everyone good health, happiness and prosperity.

Remember notices and ads like this in the run-up to the year 2000?

I spent that NY eve 1999 hanging around the IBM support center just in case our engineers overlooked something that might be affected by the date change.

Well, I went to the local cheese importer's shop, today to gather some snacks for a gathering to see the new year in

A variety of cheeses from Holland, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Colorado .

Cracker, breads, and wine.

The Sister in Law was in charge of picking the entertainment.

I was hoping for, perhaps, a rerun of this morning's Vienna concert.

We got a Sondheim review.

Well, it could have been Dick Clark's Rocking New Year.

[Sigh]

Well, done with Sondheim.

We now have a concert at Carnegie Hall with a fellow named Yoshiki.

A marvelous fellow.

I'm only sorry that I have missed his work til now.

Rather than staying up late to greet the New Year, I decided to greet the first Sunrise.

Very nice, Tude Dog! I wish we had a nice dusting of snow here but it's a no-show in the forecast for the next week or so.

Lars, I'm not sure if it's the exact same program you saw but i caught a few minutes of a New York Philharmonic concert on PBS last night that was a tribute to Sondheim. I think it was at the Lincoln Center.

Yep. That is the one. I am not a fan of Sondheim. But the Yoshiki concert at Carnegie that followed was much more interesting.

After that, Spent a couple of hours outdoors. A bit chilly, but the sky was clear and a lot of stars to be seen.

I came inside just in time for the re-run of the Ball-drop in NY. (The Mrs insists on watching that, every year. I've yet to figure out why. )

Nice, Tude.

I got up to watch the sunrise this morning, too, but didn't take camera.
