Egypt.........it's a worry

Post by Týr »

I happen to believe the Egyptian Armed Forces wouldn't have taken over without the nod from the USA who, after all, pay their damned salaries and give them their toys. The idea that the coup was internal, as opposed to Western interference, is as likely as the notion that the Syrian civil war would have kicked off had it not been for Western governments funding the Syrian rebel movements. We both agree that internal changes are the responsibility of internal forces. Enabling minor players to start civil wars is not an internal process.

Egypt.........it's a worry

I note that the splendidly-bemedalled new Pharaoh Sisi the First ascended the royal throne of Egypt this week, having no doubt already started to gild his inheritance by syphoning the Egyptian Treasury into Switzerland in the style of his old mentor Mubarak. And all he had to do for the job was to destroy his elected predecessor on behalf of his US owners. Ah well, if he'd turned out to be honest and refused, there would have been a dozen others in the appallingly corrupt Egyptian Armed Forces to have jostled for the opportunity. Way to go, Abdul, way to go.

The retired field marshal overthrew President Mohammed Morsi last July. He has since been pursuing a crackdown on Mr Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood.
