The Rime of the Forum Gardener

Post by along-for-the-ride »

Most of us are familiar with this excerpt from the famous poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" :

"Like one, that on a lonesome road

Doth walk in fear and dread,

And having once turned round walks on,

And turns no more his head;

Because he knows, a frightful fiend

Doth close behind him tread."

Here's my parody:

Like one that on a lonesome night

Doth type with fear and dread

And having typed once, posts on

Submits, and holds his head:

In hopes that someone will

Respond to what he said.

Now let's see if you can find a stanza from a famous poem, copy it, paste it here and submit a Forum Garden parody.

Any one up for the challenge? :)

"Pas ce soir, AFTR" ;)

But I'll have a go tomorrrow if I have the time.
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."

:wah: Nursery rimes count.

THE BIG SHIP SAILS ON THE ALLY-ALLY-OH

The big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh

The ally-ally-oh, the ally-ally-oh

Oh, the big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh

On the last day of September.

The captain said it will never, never do

Never, never do, never, never do

The captain said it will never, never do

On the last day of September.

The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea

The bottom of the sea, the bottom of the sea

The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea

On the last day of September.

We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea

The deep blue sea, the deep blue sea

We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea

On the last day of September.

Parody:

A new thread starts on the Forum Garden page

The Forum Garden page, the Forum Garden page

Oh, a new thread starts on the Forum Garden page

To be read by any member.

Each member said it will never, never do

Never, never do, never, never do

Each member said it will never, never do

To be read by any member.

The new thread sank to the bottom of the page,

The bottom of the page, the bottom of the page,

The new thread sank to the bottom of the page

Not read by any member.

We all scroll down to the bottom of the page,

The bottom of the page, the bottom of the page

We all scroll down to the bottom of the page

Before we can't remember.

:D

Song lyrics count too.:)

This is a song by Tony Bennett (who also shares my birthday)

The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay

The glory that was Rome is of another day

I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan

I'm going home to my city by the Bay

I left my heart in San Francisco

High on a hill, it calls to me

To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars

The morning fog may chill the air, I don't care

My love waits there in San Francisco

Above the blue and windy sea

When I come home to you, San Francisco

Your golden sun will shine for me

My parody:

The music from the CD seems somehow sadly gay

The glory that was TV is of another day

I'm not restless or alone or for granted in my world,

I'm coming here to the Garden anyway.

I leave my thoughts at Forum Garden

Right on this page, it calls to me.

To be here with all the friends who share many thoughts as well

The time may pass around me, but I find I don't care.

A post waits here at Forum Garden

Amongst the threads that I can see.

Where I come here to you, Forum Garden

My friends all smile and welcome me.

An excerpt from "The Lady of the Lake"

(I bet you know where this is going) ;)

Just as the Hunter left his stand,And stood concealed amid the brake,To view this Lady of the Lake. The maiden paused, as if againShe thought to catch the distant strain. With head upraised, and look intent,And eye and ear attentive bent,And locks flung back, and lips apart,Like monument of Grecian art,In listening mood, she seemed to stand,The guardian Naiad of the strand.

My parody:

Just as ole Nomad left his stand,

And stood concealed amid the brake,

To view this wife of Peter Lake.

Now oscar paused, as if again

She thought to catch the distant strain.

With head upraised, and look intent,

And eye and ear attentive, bent,

And locks flung back, and lips apart,

Like monument of modern art,

In listening mood, she seemed to stand,

An FG guardian, strong and grand.

:) If you have read the posts between Nomad and Peter Lake, you will appreciate my parody. :wah:

On the pages of the internet,

On the great site For-um Garden,

Lord Tomb-stone, the mighty,

He the Master of Life, descending,

On the forums of the website

Stood erect, and called the members,

Called the tribes of men together.

From his postings flowed a river,

Leaped into the light of morning,

O'er the linkage plunging onward

Gleamed like Galbally, the guru.

And the Nomad, stooping earthward,

With his finger on the keyboard

Typed a winding pathway for it,

Saying to it, "post in this way!"

Remember Fred Astaire singing this song to Ginger Rogers in that old 1930's movie?

The way you wear your hat

The way you sip your tea

The memory of all that

No they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams

The way you sing off key

The way you haunt my dreams

No they can't take that away from me

We may never never meet again, on that bumpy road to love

Still I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife

The way we danced till three

The way you changed my life

No they can't take that away from me

Here's my parody:

The way you want to chat

The way you want to tease

The memory of all that

No, they can't take that away from me.

The way your words just beam

The way you type off-key

They way you make me dream

No, they can't take that away from me.

We may never, never meet on Earth but in Heaven up above

And I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you share your strife

The way we laugh with glee

The way you changed my life

No, they can't take that away from me.

The following is not a parody of any poem, or song or nursery rime.

I made it up me-self. :D I will return to add more lines, with more Forum Garden friends. ;)

When she posts, she's not alone,

We all join in to post with Koan.

His posts appear so bold and bad.

We all see right through you, dear Nomad.

We all know we really need her;

Words of wit and wisdom from our Weeder.

Oscar admires that Gordon Brown.

Does this make Sir Peter frown?

When she posts, we join with glee

To chat and laugh with Carolly.

Jimbo's returned as Farmer Giles;

Is this a chapter from X-Files?

Thanks, Kaz.

If it has a pro or con,

Listen carefully to Lon.

If you want to throw confetti,

Let's go party here with Chezzie.

Kaz just made this person smile,

So...I'll be back a little while. :)

When you think of children spellin',

Hunting seashells--Kathy Ellen.

A girl who always helps us cope

With life's surprises, that's our Hope.

Her laughter's like a melody

To me. That's my friend, Odie.

Just like that drawer with the dull-edged knives

Just like the memory of all his ex-wives

Just like an old book of all those past lives

Go all those threads into the archives.
