Baseball trivia?

I know it's probably a longshot, but does anyone have a link

to a good source for asking questions? Specifically, a lady I've

been working for (81) and her new husband (87, married July 2nd!!)

were talking about when they dated 60-some years ago, and

he mentioned that they went to Seals Stadium on an Easter

Sunday, and Joe DiMaggio was in the line-up.

My Google search skills must not be very good, because I can't

track it down... I thought maybe the year might be 1950 but that

could be off.

I'd really like to be able to give them the date, it would make both

of them happy, I know.

Here's some relevant dates in clips from a couple of wiki pages. It's 76 years since JDM left the Seals and went from minor to major league. He retired from major league 61 years ago. If he then went back and played a commemorative game with the seals it was presumably after his retirement - while he was playing major league I assume he was disbarred from doing something like that.

Seals Stadium was a minor league baseball stadium that stood in San Francisco from 1931 through 1959.

DiMaggio was playing semi-pro ball when older brother Vince DiMaggio, playing for the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League, talked his manager into letting DiMaggio fill in at shortstop. He made his professional debut on October 1, 1932.

The Seals had hoped to sell DiMaggio's contract for $100,000. Scout Bill Essick of the New York Yankees was convinced that DiMaggio could overcome his knee injury and pestered the club to give DiMaggio another look. After DiMaggio passed a test on his knee, he was bought on November 21 in exchange for $25,000 and five players, with the Seals keeping him for the 1935 season. He batted .398 with 154 RBIs and 34 HRs, led the Seals to the 1935 PCL title, and was named the League's Most Valuable Player.

DiMaggio made his major league debut on May 3, 1936

After a poor 1951 season, a scouting report by the Brooklyn Dodgers that was turned over to the New York Giants and leaked to the press, and various injuries, DiMaggio announced his retirement on December 11, 1951

Thank you, everyone. I think I'm going to have to talk

more with these two and see if I can prod their foggy memories.

They started dating when she was 19, she was born in 1931

so that would put it at 1950, after Joe was out of the Seals

but before leaving the Yankees.

That's actually a good idea about a commemorative game,

(thank you spot) or maybe exhibition or maybe he wasn't

actually IN the line-up as remembered. I know he did live

in SF, so maybe he just dropped by the stadium or something.

The whole of Joe DiMaggio « Misc. Baseball is worth reading, but none of it shows him going back to San Francisco in the 50s. He's back there as a coach in the 60s but by then the Seals Stadium was shut.
