Google site-blocking is launched and it's wonderful

Post by spot »

Here's the full essay: Official Google Blog: Hide sites to find more of what you want

People have gone for years trying this and that to avoid google search responses from the likes of experts-exchange.com and scribd.com and stackoverflow.com, text farms that want your registration details before they'll do more than show you a teaser of what they've scraped off the floor of the internet, and money if they can talk you out of it. Now, if you click and find yourself on one, you can click the back button and the link will have a new entry next to it - "block this domain". Once you've blocked it, google search will never offer the site to you again.

You need to be logged into google for it to know who you are, of course.

It makes a huge difference.

Is the cure worse than the disease?

What are Google doing with the Analytics they're getting whilst you're logged in?
