Picky Eaters.

Post by Sheryl »

I have the strangest picky eater in my house. She really only likes fruits and vegatables. She's not a meat eater, which isn't a big deal, but it's hard finding a protien for her that she will eat. She'll barely eat eggs or beans. What can I give her that has protien in it she might like.

She won't even eat breakfast cereal with milk. She'll drink the milk out of the bowl and leave the cereal.

Try not to worry too much. I have one of those at home and took her to the doctor because I was worried. She can't have much in the way of dairy produce because it gives her excema, won't eat meat or fish and is fussy about the rest - doc went through what she does eat put my mind at rest and said she was healthy and ok.

If you are worried why not speak to your doctor.

Eurgh, pah, it's very likely to be well over 50% fat, it's like eating lard with

sawdust in it!

Bill's right, high in protein but really high in carbs.

It can be very hard getting the correct balance, depending on the age of Sheryl's daughter.

She's 3. And she likes peanut butter. I have to watch her though, cause she'll just get a spoon and eat it out the jar. :wah:

I'm not really worried about her health, she likes healthy foods, and I give her and her brother a multivitamin every night. It's just hard to fix a meal and know she might only eat one or both vegetables and the salad.

Guess I really shouldn't gripe, my nephew would only eat chicken, cheerios, or cheetohs for several years.

My friend's daughter survived on Pasta 'n' sauce for months (it's dried pasta with a powdered sauce that you add water to and boil).

My daughter lives on beans on toast, plain rice, peas & carrots, pasta and few other things - kids are a nightmare at meal times!!

"Delicious vices", I like the sound of them! Anyway, of course I have a fondness

for all sorts of foods that is "bad" for you. Too many to know where to start,

really. Pork pies, treacle tarts, sponge pudding, fried bacon, eggs, almost all

unadulterated cheeses, pate, chocolate, beer, cider, infrequently spirits, sherry,

in fact almost anything alcoholic apart from vermouth, chips, kidneys, good

sausages, boiled suet puddings, pasties, marmite, bovril, butter not margarine,

pork chops, salted peanuts, pork scratchings, more beer, chocolate, Christmas

Pudding, Queen of Puddings, pudding in general, bacon again, this time with

fried mashed potatoes and Cornish hogs pudding, gravy! Oh! Gravy! Crumpets,

muffins (cakes such as American muffins also), cake various... anyway, having

made a small start on "bad" things, I must see how tomorrow's boiled veg.

is getting on.... back in a min.

Good!

I don't trust a man who says he has no vices :)

He's either lying

or he's too boring for me :p :-6

3!! Lovely, you have no need to worry particularly about "healthy eating" for

some years.

FYI I include a link to the NHS "Birth to Five" book, which contains a great wealth

of information. Chapter five here:

http://www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/13/57/70/04135770.pdf

The whole thing (in chapters, or a single 5MB PDF) is at:

http://www.dh.gov.uk/PublicationsAndSta ... chk=yxUXT0

Hopefully there'll be some ideas there.

Oh you are *awful*!! Now I've got to go and check on the vegetables boiling

in the kitchen. I'd better have a look around, as well, to check whether I've

accidentally bought anything that's bad for me recently, and make sure it's

disposed of properly. Back in a minute or three.

Eat it - works for me every time! (especially M&S choc peanuts and raisins, sticky toffee pudding, apple turnovers etc etc etc)

It's OK, I just had a quick look, and some of the evidence has now gone. Not

all of it, though. It'll be an uphill struggle, I'm sure, to get rid of it all, especially

if I keep being absent-minded when shopping.....

Bread 'n' scrape is nice, but it should have lots of meat juice congealed under

the dripping! Sometimes you can get this from good butchers. Not the same

as "purified dripping", which is just "beef lard".

My daughter is 2 and I major picky eater too, I have to add a raw egg to a milkshake for her every week or two to make sure she gets enough iron. She hates veggies and fruit and meat but loves peanut butter, dried fruit and dairy.

I think my 2 year old is the Queen of picky eaters. I've spent a many of hours worrying about it. The latest thing we are trying is restricting her fluids (milk and juice). Doc said it will make her more hungry at meal time. This started about 6 weeks ago and I've seen a huge difference in the amount and types of foods she eats.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy
