Super bowl and PPV

How many of you will pay to watch the super bowl on television once it becomes PPV (pay per view)? Just curious?

lol. Where did you hear that it would become pay-per-view? I can't imagine the NFL or any of their sponsors ever alienating millions upon millions of potential viewers just to raise some extra cash.

And no... I don't ever do pay-per-view. For any reason. Ever. I've got a nice DVD collection, regular cable, and that's fine for me.;)

I have to admit that I probably would pay. I now already pay for the Sunday ticket on DTV at $300.00 a year. I love the NFL.

What you get is a channel for every single game. When commercials come on you can watch them or switch channels. Sometimes it just goes black for the local commercials. Then you get a channel called Redzone, which takes you to games that are close to scoring.

It would depend on

1. who is playing

2. how much

3. Are there people who would pony up a piece of the cost to come watch?

4. Are these folks people I would want in my house?

I would if my favorite team happened to make it!

But really doesn't matter because one would have more of a chance in snuggling up with a salt water crocodile, with smooches, coming away with his/her head still attached than the Superbowl becoming a PPV event!

The Super Bowl is one huge marketing commercial that needs to be seen by EVERYONE!

That's the end of that

It is commercialism at it's worse. Yeah, maybe funny commercials. But at the price of 3 million a pop, just one of those piles of money could have been sent to Haiti for assistance or to another worthy cause, that lives on in misery the day after the "big game."

Shame on capitalism gone rampant, over just another football game. IMO

Shame on capitalism gone rampant, over just another football game. IMOYa really have to wonder whats going on when viewers are looking forward to the commercials as much as the feature itself or almost so. I just don't get that. Commercials are an intrusion to me, and its why I can no longer tolerate television. Well that and the fact that the programming is mostly trivial.

I think though that thats the idea of going PPV. Finding a way to have the viewers tolerate the advertisements AND pay to watch. I can promise you that the data is being read very carefully in that regard. Since its purely addictive entertainment those who offer it believe its their right and economic duty to squeeze every penny out of it they can.

The Only glitch is local advertisements, but thats reached the point now that a small local mom and pop business cannot afford a spot anyway.

Comcast recently acquired NBC and theres already talk of making it a cable type channel now. Its most likely only a matter of time before the rest follow. It seems the only over the air station that may be left is PBS and there are many political factions chipping away at that too.

Well, I agree but I do know those companies don't spend "3 million a pop" for nothing. I don't mind spending the "3 million a pop" so long as the 100's of millions they get from the advertising goes to those people as well as others that can use the aid...

Even humanitarian aid companies need to support their own infrastructure...Granted most businesses throughout the known World couldn't care less people are starving...

You're not the only one that finds capitalism sickening I assure you...

Also, no one would spend "3 million a pop" if the majority of people that view those ads didn't buy those products...

I blame the people equally as much as I do those companies...

I agree KS, the individual can choose not to buy their products.

The dreamer in me would have loved to see one 30-60 minute "commercial" with a list of donors to something humanitarian, than no other commercials are needed. I'm sure commercial type ads were placed around the stadium anyway, to get enough coverage during the game.

I know when the Olympics are on, I will have to endure many commercials (because I usually do not watch TV at all but for the local news while doing chores, and the weather report, a necessity) I hope ESPN at least carries some of the events, because I will watch alot of the Olympics.
