Church of England to take over thousands of state schools where Bishops will be able to appoint governors | Mail Online

Couldn't make this stuff up could you It's unbelievable in this day and age. The rise in literacy in Victorian times had absolutely nothing to do with church schools but rather the introduction of a national system of non denominational schools run by local school boards and making it compulsory between the ages of five and ten. Left to religious schools alone - well you could make a good case they held things back being too busy arguing over what was proper Christian education. Most people in this country are not religious yet we are expected to pay for this nonsense. Thank god this nonsense doesn't affect Scotland.

I find it crazy, all tax dollars go to government schools, and no portion parents can use towards private schools of their choosing.

Government knows better than parents.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

If people want to send their children to private school there is nothing stopping them. I'm afraid you won't find much support for all private schools in the uk, education is far too important to be left to the market place. If you want a successful economy and country then education should be available to all. That's not socialism it's something every good capitalist should be in favour of - where else is the educated workforce you need going to come from?

What is happening here is the state funding religious schools something which many people will object to. The rise in literacy in england was due to the introduction of state funded compulsory education and had nothing whatsoever to do with moral teaching or anything taught in a religious school. Like too many politicians our education minister has a pet theory and completely ignores any facts that get in the way of what he ants to believe is true. Secular education works religious education does not unless it also follows a secular curriculum.

Scotland had compulsory primary education since the time of John Knox, In the 18th century the literacy rate in Scotland over 90%, that's one of the reasons scots feature in so many of the scientific advances of the last two hundred years . University education was open to everybody all you had to do was turn up at the lecture and pay the lecturer. We've actually gone backwards, most people could not afford university education nowadays. This is a backward step that will reduce educational availability for many and is divisive. It's bad enough catholic and protestant schools now they also have muslim schools just watch the rise in sectarianism in the years to come.
