Showdown in Elk Town
Hubby and I had close encounters with some of these magnificent animals on the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. The photos below were taken by yours truly on two separate occasions.

It's probably a tourist attraction and makes a lot of money for the community. Just guessing though.

“As long as our civilization is essentially one of property, of fences, of exclusiveness, it will be mocked by delusions”

Had a close encounter with a herd of reindeer once. Have you any idea of the sense of frustration when your dog takes off after them? Come back you little ------ somehow there are no words that fit. Quite like a bit of venison, the wild stiff is so much better than the farmed.

Estes Park is right in the middle of the migration path the elk use to go between the high mountain terrain where they summer and the lower elevations where they pasture during the winter.
Locals have learned to share.
The tourists are the problem.
