Sexual Attraction

Post by Ahso! »

What does or has (while it lasted :wah:) attracted you to a mate? I'm wording my post carefully as to not alienate any gay people.

Natural selection dictates we are drawn to potential mates based on two criteria 1) ability to reproduce strong offspring, and 2) survivability. Thats it! Getting into the finer details may become somewhat complicated, but for the purposes of this thread not really relevant.

As I now look back on my younger daze and consider what drove my interest in females (that was my attraction) I'd have to break it down into three categories;

a) Familiarity - Attraction to traits found in the opposite sex parent

b) Physicality - Capability to carry offspring to healthy term

c) Rationality - Mental and Emotional Fortitude

As a youth ignorant of Evolutionary Theory I had no idea what was driving my 'hormones', but now I understand (a little - I have much, much more to learn).

You may not believe in evolution (thats okay), and I promise entertaining the idea will not turn you into a monkey or give you an overwhelming desire to murder anyone, but what is/was it that drew you to potential mates from an evolutionary perspective?

I usually find the people who over-anyalise their relationships and why they are attracted to them In the first place, have a string of failed relationships behind them.

Everyone analyzes their relationship at some point. Some more than others.:yh_rotfl

I thought the thread was about "sexual attraction"?

Since when do you want to have kids with every person you're sexually attracted to?

So i can agree with the "oomph" factor.:yh_bigsmi

So, upon meeting someone, you are not in anyway shape or form attracted to anyone until you have seen the size of their appendage?

Hmmm, what sort of places do you frequent to gather that sort of information at a first meeting :wah:
