Did you know that the Shirelle's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" was the first song by an all-girl group to reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and did so in January 1961? If you had asked me who that accomplishment belonged to I couldn't have told you and I wouldn't have guessed that it would have taken until 1961. Great song!

That clip of little John Kennedy Jr always tears me up.

Wow! I would've guessed the Andrews Sisters.

According to Wikipedia, the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 was created in 1955 so that was after the Andrews Sisters' heyday. I'm sure they did break some records on prior existing charts though! Even though the Hot 100 came about later than I thought, I'm still surprised that it took 6 years for a girl group to reach the #1 position. Maybe girl groups weren't as popular in the 1950s as much as solo artists?

Music has always been a male dominated field. I'd guess since music was heard mainly on the radio and boys drove the cars and had most of the jobs the slant was toward male music. I recall thinking about this issue when I was a teenager in the early seventies. I think Carole King's Tapestry album was a major breakthrough for female musicians. And then came Heart.

Interestingly enough, my favorite version of this song was performed by Dave Mason.

I was wracking my brain trying to remember the "recent" cover of this song I liked so much. Man, I used to love the hell out of Dave Mason. I've kind of forgotten all about him.

(Put a good set of earphones on)
