I'll start the thread with this song, a great little tune and it really brings back a lot of memories.

My goodness Scrat... I bought Aquarium and Aquarius, much to the disgust of my offspring, but I didn't expect anyone here to remember them. They were unique, I thought. They had sarcasm and tunes and two instantly recognisable singers. Back To The 80's is scarcely an 80s song though. Nobody in the 80s could have thought it up or created it.

What an impressive fellow. No, I'd not heard him before. That's quite a technique. I like his voice too.

He was born blind and adopted as an infant. He learned how to play the guitar at 3. I have a few of his albums. Sadly, he died a few years back.

80s music, for me, was and remains defined by the virtuoso Yellow Magic Orchestra. I recall buying x00 Multiplies when it came out. I recall playing it to the children when they were of an age incapable of complaining at the appalling din being foisted on them. I hope in some small way it had a lasting effect.

YouTube - Technopolis & Rydeen / Yellow Magic Orchestra

My goodness me yes, it still works.

I don't suppose anyone remembers Georg Kajanus?

I remember Georg Kajanus. I bought the Sailor albums. I enjoyed them. I was impressed. I liked Checkpoint best, I think.

It was a long time back.

YouTube - SAILOR: 'Sailor'

The band wasn't quite Roxy Music and Georg wasn't quite Brian Ferry but they were still worth the admission.

Ron and Russell Mael's Sparks, too. I'm still staggered by their music. I still have Propaganda and Kimono My House, come to that. They're American.

I was thinking it was strange you started the thread with a song written in 2008!

'80s, hmmm?

Van Halen - Jump

Rush - Limelight

Yes - Owner Of a Lonely Heart

Jefferson Starship - Find Your Way Back

While the following song technically came out in 1979 on their "Freedom At Point Zero" album, I figure it qualifies, since they played it extensively throughout the '80s and beyond:

That brought back memories, so I went and did a little research. From Stevie Ray Vaughan | AllMusic:

Vaughan performed a number of concerts in 1988, including a headlining gig at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival...

I was there and saw him play that gig. He was dynamite! That was just a short time before the helicopter crash that took his life (spring of 1990).

Nice choice AFTR Crowded house are an amazing band .

My son went to see the new footloose and I asked if it was anything like the first ...I got a blank stare. Then I had to explain that I saw the first one when I was younger than him and then reminded him that he had the song on his ipod thingy . lol

I was born in 69' so I consider myself lucky to have my parents music of the 60's my older sisters music of the sventies and then the 80's when I was a teenager. I feel sorry for the kids of today . wehn your own children are listening to all the past music instead of whats coming out in their own generation something is seriously wrong .

Who says there's no history in a video . The bloke with the beard and singlet and tats in this video was found in a petrol drum in the Yarra. See what happens when you join bikey gangs??? Police used this video to identify him.

and the irony of this clip .....james frued (the lead singer ) was an alcoholic and committed suicide last year .

ah yes the eighties when you could wear one earing and one glove and nobody thought it strange . men wore eyeliner and lipstick and they weren't metrosexuals. women shaved their heads fully and partially . boys dyed their hair pink and blue. black men wore pants that could open into parachutes if caught in the wind.

And we all should of taken heed of this song. it's a song we should show our daughters

This song came out of the eighties and always gives me goosebumps when I hear it. Best protest song EVER and now used all over the world .

I think some of the best protest songs ever were by RATM but they of course are 90's then of course my favorite is Fortunate son "CCR" but they are 70's though this is for 80's music not protest songs

The singer from this band is currently the singer for a New Orleans band called Rocktricity. A very good friend of mine (from the '80s) is the drummer for that band.

How about this, then (from 1983, though the song came out in '79):
