Willcox Teenager - Amber Alert Issued

The AMBER Alert System began in 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to help find abducted children. AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response and was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnaped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered. Other states and communities soon set up their own AMBER plans as the idea was adopted across the nation.

Willcox Teenager - Amber Alert Issued

Post by Sherrinvale »

An Amber Alert was issued Thursday night for a 16-year-old Willcox girl who went missing while on her way to school. Joyce Apostolou was last seen at 7:30 a.m. when she left her father’s job at the Willcox Department of Public Works and Services, said Willcox Chief of Police Jake Weaver.

Apostolou was to walk to her charter school, but she never arrived, he said. Willcox police decided to issue the Amber Alert because the teen has no history of running away or being missing, he said.
