What do you miss?

Post by Bez »

Reading this again it looks anti-kid.....but it's not...it's just that things have changed so much...the innocence has gone....kids dressed like mini adults etc...such a shame.

i have 6 grandchildren....when they come to see me we play with jigsaws, card games, snakes and ladders....they love it. If we go out we go and collect shells on the beach etc. They grumble at first but have a whale of a time in the end.....I've got great memories of things i did as a kid and hopefully so have my kids. What will this new generation be remebering....how many hours they spent playing computer games ? How many times they went to Mac Donalds ? sad sad sad....

So true what has the world come too, i remember playing cricket with all the street till late at night. Now i would be too scared to in case i hit someones car!

Easily the worst thing that I miss the most all are my old friends whom I met at either school or back where I used to live. I remember being in tears when I was young, when my best friend from next door moved house. Ah the old days, brings back a tear to my eye. :-1

I used to walk to school every day calling for friends on the way. There was only about 1 car in every street. We used to have our milk delivered by a horse drawn milk float....happy days

I know exactly what you mean honney. We had a 'get out of your cars and walk day' a while back ago where I live, and the response was supposed to be rubbish. I think it was something like 10% of the town decided to walk or bike. Not exactly a promising statistic that is it?

I miss seeing kids dressed in proper clothing. When I was in school it was cool to wear more conservative clothes. I saw a ten year old wearing hoochie shorts that said "bootylicious" on them and I wanted to smack her mother!

I also miss those little wax bottles that were filled with extremely sweet sugary stuff. They were awful, but I liked to chew on the wax.

We still have the "bubble" here in some of the older play grounds.

I miss good old fashioned wooden seat swings, the ones now days when you sit on them fold up around your butt and for us oldies with bad hips that hurts. Gawd I loved the swings, still wish I could sit on them for a long time and just swing.

My gran's had a single rope swing with a red plastic seat, you straddled the rope to sit on it. This was tied in their big old tree in their front yard, we spent hours on that thing.

Interesting that a few of you have confessed to missing The Waltons. I raised my kids by trying to emulate John Walton Snr (nice one Ralph) and they haven't turned out too bad even though they weren't overly keen on the chores. The Waltons had nothing but seemed happier than we who have everything

I miss Concorde, that was a cool plane, despite the horrible crash thing. That and the plaugue, that sorted out the men from the boys. ;)

I miss loving the deep snow that seemed like it was five feet deep-of course when I was only three feet tall the snow seemed much deeper and it was so much fun making igloos and snowmen and angels.

I also miss the tall slides at the park, they seemed like they reached the clouds!

And I really miss the innocence and the feeling of invinciblity as a child. I never thought about things like what if I get hurt or will I get a disease or any of the what if questions. Sure I got hurt alot, but I had fun doing it!

I miss the 70's and 80's.
