Something horrific from something common

Post by minks »

I just recently went to the doctor for an infection in my eyelid. No not a stye but an actual infection. Well she really shocked me over her concern for this. If it does not show signs of improvement in 24-36 hours get to emergancy and you will have to go on intravenous antibotics. Holy Crap Batman I said to myself. She said yes because it is soft tissue of the head you could get a brain abcess. She then put me on heavy duty high doses of antibiotics.

Well folks my point is, make sure you treat your sinus infections and ear infections with proper and completed dosage of antibiotics. This is no laughing matter. It also goes for any infection in soft tissue about your head, eyelids, gums included. Do the same for your children with ear infections.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below is a bit of what I found on the topic
Brain abscesses commonly occur when bacteria or fungi infect part of the brain. Inflammation develops in response. Infected brain cells, white blood cells, and live and dead microorganisms collect in a limited area of the brain. This area becomes enclosed by a membrane that forms around it and creates a mass.
While this immune response can protect the brain by isolating the infection, it can also do more harm than good. The brain swells in response to the inflammation, and the mass may put pressure on delicate brain tissue. Infected material can block the blood vessels of the brain, further damaging tissues by causing cell death and swelling of additional cells. Multiple abcesses are uncommon except in immunocompromised patients.
Oooo..scary. Thanks for the info, Minks. Good luck, but.....Hey! if you lose your eye...
You'll get to wear a cool eyepatch like Angelina Jolie in "Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow" and you could have fun going around saying things like, "AAaarrr, Jim, we're on a lee shore now." and calling people "matey". :wah:
Freaky. I usually make herbal infusions and deal with stuff before it gets bad but sometimes things sneak up on you.
I went to the doctor about a sty on rim of my eye about a year ago. It is common. When I showed it to the doctor, he actually took a step backward with a disconcerting look on his face. I suddenly wondered if there was a 666 tattooed somewhere inside my eyelid that I didn't know about.
I hate it when doctors overreact...but its better than underreacting, that's for damn sure.
Turned out I did have 666 imprinted on my iris, the stye went away but I see little men with pitchfork to my left everywhere I go.
Just Call me EyeGore.....:P
Well not sure if things are improving, seems now instead of the entire eyelid swelled up it is now a red concentrated area that is like a huge zit. I look hideous.
We had a similar incident here a young daughter of a fairly famous radio anouncer she ended up with brain damage from a tooth infection.
Freaky stuff that is.
I had an allergic reaction to hairdye once. My face swelled so much my glasses didn't fit on. Looked like the "elephant woman". Try to laugh hysterically and know that you are healing
Eye update, I had to go into emergancy, had it lanced, and have to go to a specialist in March and have a cyst removed. If It isn't removed it will just get re infected over and over again. Believe you me, a needle in your eye lid is sooooooo unpleasant.
Have a lid lift, i did last April, 48 stitches to each lid, to remove what they called "hoods" excess tissue above eyes...Yes a needle to the eye is not funny. :lips:
