I'm not sure how new and upcoming he is, but one I recently discovered and really have enjoyed is Henning Mankell.

Tad Williams is one of my favorite authors, but I wasn't overly drawn into the Otherland series, however, he's written some other novels independent of that series which you may enjoy. The War of the Flowers is one of my favorites by him.

I'm new to your forum and I'll "try" to participate in this, but I'm not very good at group reads. But if it's something I have in the TBR stack I'll be along for the month. How will we go about selecting the book for the month?
