You're beating about the bush, Spot. A theocracy does not need to be proclaimed officially in order to exist. Of course, I don't believe England is a true theocracy, but I do find it unsettling that the separation between church and state is blurry.

Yah, that works if you're awake enough to turn on the lights and check the status of the seat. If you crawl in there in the middle of the night on automatic pilot, eyes sticky and bladder bursting, and plunk down just to get your butt wet, it ain't that pleasant.

Try Aveyond. It's a beautiful RPG in the old style (although it's a new game). It has a lot of strong female characters (including the lead), interesting plot, tons of side quests, and really great music.
