Yes, the concept is still present today in the U.S.-just using different terminology.
I agree that they do not teach it in schools the way we learned it, pc-ing the curriculum. One of the reasons why I will not teach social studies, unless forced to.

Well, we had a big old party in Baltimore on this anniversary-tall ships were sailing off this morning after a week of festivities. Blue Angels flew overhead all week, lots of pomp and all that stuff. The little old fort still stands with what is left, and we do quite like it here.

Oh, he must hurt, that is a painful injury.
My knee is better, it bends about 94 degrees. Very slow going in PT, I had to return to martial arts to limber it up to that. I can now walk up the stairs correctly, but not down, that is a pain to deal with.
